Video showcasing the frames per-second difference of running Unigine Heaven on Ubuntu 14.04 versus running it in Windows 8. Both tests have Heaven running at the lowest using OpenGL, since we are trying a 6 year old middle-low range card.

Timeline:
0:04 - Unboxing of 9400GT
1:24 - Unigine Settings
1:52 - Unigine Benchmark begins (with commentary)
6:14 - Unigine Benchmark results
6:30 - Additional footage showing me setup my system (remove 680 and add in the 9400GT)

On the Ubuntu side of things, I used the newest Linux driver which is 337.12 Beta.

On the Windows side of things, I used the most similar Windows driver which is 337.50 Beta.

Unigine Heaven was set to exactly the same settings in both situations. Running it at 1280x720.

No screen recorders were involved. All recording was done with the Canon SX50 HS camera ( thus the low quality video, best I can do at this point in time ).

Once again, Nvidia proves it's seriousness with providing gaming performance for Linux users. Both on Ubuntu and Windows, Unigine Heaven is able to run in a similar manner.

Summary: Ubuntu 14.04 with Unity runs on par with Windows 8. Unigine's engine looks to be very well equipped for passing the graphics load equally amongst both operating systems. Nvidia's backwords support is also surprisingly in good shape.

This video is just to highlight the performance I get in both Operating Systems. They are NOT representative of what anyone else may experience, whether current, past or future. AMD graphics users and Intel graphics users may experience vastly different results.

I am not infallible. It is likely that I made mistakes. I did however put a lot of time into this to try and get it right. I hope you can take something informational out of this.
