This is a video meant to showcase that AMD drivers on
Ubuntu 14.04 can be installed via a GUI interface. This guide is more suited to desktops, rather than laptops with hybrid graphics.

*Reminder* Everytime you update Ubuntu and there is a new kernel, you will likely need to reinstall the driver. This can sometimes be a tedious or difficult situation. Please be prepared in advance..

This video is aimed at beginner Ubuntu and Linux users, and can be used as a guide as well for distributions like Linux Mint, Kubuntu, Xubuntu and other Ubuntu-derivatives.

When downloading the driver, go for the one labelled Linux_x86 or Linux_x64! This video uses these driver packages, not the other ones.

Step by step:
1. Open a terminal and type sudo passwd root and hit Enter. You'll need to enter your password three times. Once done, close it.

2. [Optional] Open a new terminal and type sudo apt-get install gksu. Type in your password when asked. When prompted, type y and hit Enter. Once done, close the terminal.

3. Download your respective driver from AMD's website:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

4. After downloading, open the directory in which
you stored the driver. Right click the driver,
click Properties and open the Permissions tab.
Make sure "Allow executing file as program" is ticked.

5. Go to the top left, click Edit and click Preferences. Under the behavior tab, make sure "Run executable text files when they are opened" is selected. [You will need a window open. When in doubt, just open the Home folder first]

6. Double click the driver (the file that ends with .run).

7. You will be prompted for your password. Type it in and hit Enter.

8. Select "Install Driver x.xxx on X.Org 6.9 or later" where x
is the driver version number. Click on the Continue button.

9. Read the Licence Agreement. Click on the I Agree button.

10. Select "Automatic". Click the Continue button.

11. Once done, click on the Exit button.

12. Restart your computer to let AMD's driver take the place of the Opensource driver.

To check that it installed successfully, open Ubuntu's dash. Type in AMD and if the AMD Catalyst Center appears, then you've successfully installed it!

Driver used in this video:
AMD Catalyst 14.3 Beta Linux86_64

In the future, HD5000 series cards may no longer be supported by the AMD Linux driver. When that happens, you are better off with the Open Source drivers rather than the AMD Linux Legacy driver.
