The upper cathedral ward is a nasty place with devilish designs. In short, it's annoying but will force you to get better versus certain enemies. Namely brain sucker enemies which are very numerous here.

Normally you can skip really terrible areas by running past them, while it's true to some extent here (if you time it right), the brain suckers will attempt to stun you while climbing ladders. I'm not sure if it will knock you off the ladder, but I'm assuming it probably does.

Brain suckers by the themselves are not terrible but imagine running into one in a narrow hallway, and now you're starting to get the real deviousness of the level design here. You're forced to kill at least 1 (maybe 2) to even get the key to fight the boss! Thankfully if you take it nice and slow you'll find you can easily charge attack a few from behind and then visceral to make it easier.

Thankfully besides that threat, the place is more creepy than dangerous. It's dark, strange noises will be happening in a very very dark building. Best hold your nerve, panicking will only make the situation worse, and believe me if you explore the urge will be to panic at a certain event or 2.
