Mergo's Wet Nurse is a sort of final boss in Bloodborne that is quite panic inducing if you're new to the fight. It's only source of damage is it's blades, but of course that's not all to the fight. If it was, it'd be easy since Mergo's Wet Nurse is very susceptible to standing behind it and swinging.

It'd be much more difficult when solo but she does have a sort of "walk in a straight line while swinging wildly" attack you can easily take advantage of. Be careful though, a few of it's attacks are quite awkward looking and no doubt easy to be hit by.

Her slice and dice attack (the one where she walks forward) doesn't actually hit all that hard per attack, but you can easily be stun locked during it and eat all the hits. Best strategy if you're solo would probably be playing unlocked on with a fast weapon and playing a hit and run game while being safe.

The challenge comes in the 2nd (and possibly 3rd) phase, the wet nurse will make the whole room very dark. During this phase she may even spawn a clone, it seemingly dies very quickly but rest assured the clone still hits every bit as hard as the real thing.

So how do you dodge it? I don't honestly know, I was kind of panicking here and didn't really learn how. If I had to guess, when darkness descends, roll / sprint and don't stand still? It didn't work for me, but I haven't actually co-oped MWN yet to learn it extensively.
