You maybe already knew this by now but in Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow you can skip Marowak ghost in Lavender Town simply by having pokemon doll. This will save your time as you can skip whole underground basement plot in Celadon City, which is good if you are doing speed run or just want to skip that part for any reason. Without Silph Scope you won't be able to fight other ghost types (Ghastly and Haunter). This will allow you to get pokeflute faster and continue your road to the 5th gym.
