This time I made a video on another Exclusive Pioneer LaserActive title. This one is a pretty rare shooter titled Vajra.

In Japan from ancient times, there were life sized "DEKU" called "KUGUTSUKI" which had cursing powers. The DEKU were made only because they would ignore all restrictions to governing and be obedient to one supreme ruler. However, they had gradually disappeared with the passing of time and today there is hardly anyone who knows of their existence.

Recently, a national project of the Capital transfer came to an end. In fact a marine city "GeoPolis" was built on Osaka Bay. During this time the KUGUTSUKI reappeared with the power to have an influence upon history again.

Who is the mysterious old man who has 5 of the missing Kugutsuki? His name is "Hayachine No Okina" (Ruler of Hayashine). By restoring the lost cursing power with modern technology, he brought the Kugutsuki back to life again.

When the times are changing and the popular mind is growing wild, he sets into action using the Kugutsuki to place all history under his control. The Kugutsuki now have a foothold in GeoPolis.

This game is made by Pioneer in collaboration with Data West and Daps Center in 1993.

The graphics in the game are pretty good considering the time it came out. I like the scenery and the amount of sprite frames they used was also done pretty well for the enemy mecha that you fight against. The bullets that they shoot at you also look decent enough. The 3D models that you see of the mecha before each stage look great also for its time.

The music is fantastic! If you have ever played a RayXanber game on PC Engine you will definitely notice how similar these games sound in music. Its simply superb music for a shooter. I loved the music done in RayXanber series and this game is no different. Simply superb music!

The sound effects are pretty good for this game. Generated from the PC Engine PAC the sound effects are done decently with quite a few different sounds, from 1 ups and bonuses to gunshots and bombs, all the sound effects were done very nicely and sound good in the game.

The control is pretty good for this style of game. You simply move the pointer around and shoot auto fire with button I and use button II for bombs. You push both buttons together to make the sight split into 4, and then press both again to make all 4 sights turn back into just one.

The point of having four sights is simply to help stop the barrage of enemy attacks on your ship. They have only 1/8 the power of your normal sight so its best to only switch to four sights when absolutely needed.

Bottom line: If you own a TurboGrafX 16 or PC Engine PAC for LaserActive this game is a must have! It is one of THE best reasons to buy a PC Engine PAC in the first place. I prefer Vajra over most other LaserActive games. It has a fantastic soundtrack and is a lot of fun to play! Highly recommended!

This disc is in 480i, and features Stereo sound.
