Space Berserker for Pioneer LaserActive
7This time I decided to go ahead and make a video on an Exclusive Pioneer LaserActive title, this one is Space Berserker!
In Space Berserker you play as one of the best (in your group) Valkyrie space fighters stationed aboard Space Battleship Odin of the Earth Federation Forces. Alien spaceships equipped with terrible weapons have invaded the outer earth defense perimeter and the final battle for mankind's survival begins. Yup, it's another space shooter!
This is an old LaserDisc game made in 1993 by Pioneer in conjunction with SEGA and it displays state of the art in games for that time period. The only thing that came close was the 3DO, but overall the LaserActive was superior bringing real analogue uncompressed FMV and digital optical sound to your home. The L.A. also doubled as a Turbo Duo and Sega CD system! Anyways about the game.
The graphics in the game are very good for a LaserActive game with great looking streaming backgrounds and enemys that really blend decently with the background as well. If the settings are right you can barely see them coming out of the darkness of space and then wham! they are in your face shooting you with multiple bullets. I like the overall graphics in the game, they are great for 1993!
The sound effects are decent, using the sega pac as the sound generator as always (for Mega LD games). The sounds of the bullets and weapons in general are what you would expect from a sega cd or genesis cart. Decent overall but nothing great. The music is great though and the sound quality is in Roland Sound Space and sounds really great in Surround Sound!
The control in the game is like any streaming LD game from back in its time, and everthing moves spot on with great accuracy. As long as you are accurate enough to aim, then you can kill most of the enemys, allthough some seem impossible to kill for whatever reason and some bullets are unstoppable. The game is way to simple on easy, and easy as well on normal. I would suggest you play it only on hard mode, and get your moneys worth as the game is really short for a LA title.
Bottom line: There aren't very many kick ass great games for the LaserActive, but this is definately one of the better ones, even if it is short, it is 100% worth picking up if you own a Pioneer LaserActive with SEGA control PAC.
This game is in 480i, and features RSS (Roland Sound Space) surround sound.
