Welcome to another great sneak peek on an exclusive Pioneer LaserActive title. This one is an outstanding shooter titled Hyperion.

One day, a giant energy bomb shot through the darkness of space and hit the earth killing all life on the planet. The remaining few humans left in space banded together to create a new colony. They have formed a determined new fighting force.

A select few humans from this new colony, set out in space to find out why they were attacked, and to destroy the enemys that did this. However, once reaching their destination of where the energy bomb originated from, they were met with hostiles known as the Fesendenz, and were obliterated completely.

The remaining few humans did not know what to do about this new alien threat, and did not have the technology to fight against them.

During some space training flights, two humans (Culta, and Keaki) happened upon a mysterious living creature called Nordic, which captured them. Thankfully Nordic was a benevolent creature, and the fate of the pair took a turn for the better.

Nordic radically transformed their spacecraft into formidable fighting machines - which only they could command. Nordic soon released them, and aboard their new impressive Hyperion ships they returned to Abraxis in the Earths orbit.

After returning to Abraxis, the two young pilots were heralded as heroes and given the mission of securing the future survival of the Earth. Proud of their elevated status, the two waited anxiously to relaunch their new space craft, and to fulfill their destiny.

This game is developed by Taito, and was Distributed by Pioneer in 1994.

The graphics in Hyperion are simply outstanding! The computer generated graphics (CGI Backdrops) are done up VERY WELL and are top notch graphics for 1994.

Nothing else in 1994 even came close to this quality. Even the overlay graphics were done very well mixing the sprite enemys with background enemies. The space war comes to life before your eyes, showing you just what LaserActive really had to offer graphic wise.

The music is, without a doubt, awesome! Every song in the game fits perfectly with the action taking place on screen. Some stages have fast paced music to match the action, and other stages have slower paced music that fits with the background just right. I couldn't have asked for much better. Next to Vajra, Hyperion has the best soundtrack on LaserActive.

The sound effects are decent. Every time you hit an enemy or use a bomb you get some slight sound effects. Its not much. Thankfully most of the in game sound effects for explosions are done with red book audio, and are part of the CD audio music you hear playing in the background. So the explosions from bosses and such sound great!

The control is great for a LaserDisc game. Much like Vajra, you control the ship on screen, and have to dodge incoming objects from the background, and enemy fire. You can move anywhere on the screen, at any time and use your bombs whenever you want. Your not really limited on what you can do, so it is like most other 3D rail shooters out there control wise. I like it.

Bottom line: If you have the LaserActive with a Sega CD PAC, then I strongly urge you to get this game! It is one of the best on the system, and is a lot of fun to play! Hyperion on LaserActive is in a league of its own.

This disc is in 480i, and features RSS Surround sound.
