Vanilla TV Tropes and Von Bolt (Advance Wars Dual Strike) Complete Monster effortpost mess
Vanilla TV Tropes celebrates the Advance Wars 20th anniversary by starting up Complete Monster effort posts for the pre-Days of Ruin Advance Wars games. Who goes first but Von Bolt, to my correct guess from earlier. And.....LightySnakeasuarus, like the Democrat In Name Only that he is, fails to be diligent. Besides the obvious typo-induced red link created by vanilla TV Tropes' own formatting that he should be familiar with, he does NOT go into clean detail about VB's actions in the present of the game proper. Here's the order of events for those wondering:
-Kindle reports in to VB and suggests to him to kill Hawke and Lash. Kindle and VB right after catch Hawke spying on them and try to have Hawke and Lash executed as security risks. This is more on Kindle than on VB.
-VB is basically an Orcus On His Throne for Missions 21 to 26, granted that this IS to the benefit of his plan. The Black Obelisk in Mission 22 would already have been a decoy, and Kindle abandoning the Andy clone to die in Mission 26 as a case of You Have Failed Me is directly on Kindle too.
-VB takes command of the Bolt Guard's forces in Mission 27, overriding Kindle's attempts to do that herself, although VB is of course recognizing the Allied Nations to be too much of a threat at that point.
-Mission 28 has Kindle act as the secondary commander willfully part of the plan threatening Omega Land, with NO objections from VB. This clarifies that at the very least, VB is HOLDING BACK ON HIS EVIL.
Now of course, VB is unmistakably heinous enough with the best he can hope for still being a case of VERY blatant tribalism, and thanatophobia, while an actually understandable enough motive, wouldn't be enough of an excuse, but there's no reason he should be tried without enough diligence, and definitely not alone in this regard.
-Kindle, with less excuse AND resources and yet more screentime, has her own atrocities that I call out here.
-Adder is an active sadist who brags about destroying multiple towns (would be Offscreen Villainy, but the bragging sets off Grit and we have seen Black Hole, although under Lash's command, having done this to Olaf's hometown), coerces Kanbei with threats against a strategically unimportant locale, and fakes a peace treaty attempt. Adder also has this little gem of dialogue complete with implications that no other Nintendo Wars series villain, not even from Days of Ruin, involves, let alone in Advance Wars 2 which is still not that Darker And Edgier except compared to AW1:
"No. First, we suggest they surrender. Their CO's a young girl, you know. Perhaps she can be convinced to come along quietly. Heh heh heh..."
-Countess Ingrid from Battalion Wars 1 revives the Iron Legion against Kaiser Vlad's scared warning of the Iron Legion's own evils, and in the process of arranging this revival also turns Ubel into a climbing workhorse complete with whipping.
Now Sturm I won't have any active objections against if nothing further comes up, although I have doubts about his punch, even if they're probably minor. But Von Bolt? Yeah, have Kindle, Adder, and Countess Ingrid tried too if we're going to put the thanatophobic idiot who got basically recycled in Yu-Gi-Oh GX into somebody who got redeemed through the process.
Of course, I doubt I can expect results from a site that cheaply condemns Vic Mignogna for the sake of doing so, but lets Mangs the ACTUAL unrepentant lecherous scumbag run around.
