Stakeholders of Research and Education from across Africa are in Abuja for the 2024 edition of the West and Central African Research and Education Network.

The annual ceremony to be hosted by the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN), will see participants deliberate on the theme " Charting the Course: Forging Future-Ready Higher Education and Research Communities.

Speaking ahead of the Conference, the Chief Executive Officer, WACREN, Dr Boubakar Barry, said having been fortified by the challenges posed by the rippling effects of COVID-19, RENs and the higher education fraternity need to bring the lessons of the past to define a sustainable future.

He added that the participants are expected to determine a clear path to a more sustainable future and prepare to tackle emerging challenges and realities.

Earlier the Secretary General of the Committee of Vice Chancellor's, Prof Yakubu Ochefu said Research drives national development, hence the open science initiative to discover, share, and use knowledge for development.

The 2 day workshop expected to hold on 7and 8 March 2924 will feature special sessions including a special summit to discuss digital education infrastructure to enhance pedagogy delivery and a workshop on building a framework for open research in Nigeria.
