We're unboxing the wooden puzzle game The Sherlock!
Welcome to the Retro Gamer 365 where we are gaming every day! Today we are looking at and unboxing a puzzle game called "The Sherlock." I am not entirely sure as to if the game is appropriately considering the design of the game but we will roll with it.
So this game is essentially a wooden IQ puzzle where you have to assemble it. The problem which is presented is that each of the different puzzle prompt cards gives a certain set of insertable pegs which must be used to solve the specific problem. So not only is it a wooden puzzle but it actually is comprised of dozens of solutions based upon the given inputs. It is kinda like the "Bedlam" cube puzzle or the stacking cat and dog puzzles where they have to fit back into a specific shape and size but there is more than one possibility of how to do it.
This puzzle is rather well made. The wooden pieces are uniformly shaped and, based upon trying it once, they fit very snugly into their places once solved. However, like all wooden puzzles the pieces will all get loose and will not fit as tightly once they have been used multiple times. Regardless, this seems to be rather firm and the additional looseness of being used over time will actually make it easier to assemble.
The prompt cards all have the solutions on the backside of them so that if you are really stumped you can look at that and see how to do it so you can impress your friends. Or you can spend hours trying to solve each puzzle and eventually use a hammer to put them into place.
This really is a nice puzzle set and I am pleased with the design of the packaging as well as the design of the puzzle itself. The pieces are all held snugly in the case and it should hold up nicely to being moved repeatedly as well as used.
