A playthrough of LJN's 1993 NES game, WWF King of the Ring.

This video shows the tournament mode played through on the normal difficult level with Bam-Bam Bigelow.

The fourth and final official WWF thankfully saw Sculptured Software dumped for development duties. Instead, this time it was done by Grey Matter. I know, I know, I can hear the groaning now. But seriously, using Steel Cage Challenge as a template, this game improves significantly on the earlier title. The controls are the same, but this time they do what you want them to, and it doesn't feel like you're playing in a vat of molasses.

The graphics are much different, and though they look pretty hokey with their hilariously awkward animation, they are much more recognizable now, and I teens to think they have a lot more charm than tiny blobs in Steel Cage Challenge. The simple line-art style here reminds me a fair bit of the sprites in Dirty Harry, and it's much cleaner overall.

So, while the series never again hit the heights that Rare brought it to with the first two games, all things considered, at least the NES WWF games got to go out with a bit more fanfare than the awful Steel Cage Challenge would've garnered.
