Played through the WWF Championship mode with Rowdy Roddy Piper.
In the hands of Rare, the first two WWF games for the NES were games that were complete hits in satisfying what the legions of WWF fans wanted.
Then Rare leaves, and the WWF license is still in the hands of Acclaim. If you're thinking, "Oh God," you're right to do so. This time the development was handled by the (hit-or-miss) team at Sculptured Software. This effort was most certainly a miss.
It's ugly, there are no unique moves, it has got badly sampled grunts constantly spamming the audio, the controls are stiff and somewhat unresponsive, and now you can't even really tell who you're wrestling most of the time workout looking at the names at the top of the screen. It's also really easy - nearly every fight can be won by doing eye gouges alone. I did my best to avoid lazy playing like that in the video.
This is the first time WWF felt like LJN/Acclaim on the NES, but at least they picked up their game somewhat before the final one in the line, King of the Ring, was released. The third time is usually said to be the charm, but in this case, the third time was an absolute abortion and should be thrown in the shredder. It's by far the worst WWF game on the NES - and arguably the worst overall wrestling game on the platform.
