Hello again.

Intended to upload this episode three days ago, but well, I got lazy because Chimerian Squadron isn't that engaging really. This mission however wants me to consider disagreeing with myself!

On a side note - this was the fastest uploaded HandBraked video, which length is more than twenty minutes, in my history. This is... strange and unnerving. If this video is actually cut-off because of this case - spam me if you find a way and I'm gonna reupload it, Watchers and Commenters.

Now, for the part that I enjoy the most in this LP...

Phew, it was a busy day today. Here's what I've found.

As I wrote before, I managed to snag a permission to get into legacy XCOM HQ for my investigation. Not only me, but also John decided to revisit this base. Guess he's quite nostalgic about that.

I already was here, but this time, my target was the lore of XCOM. And what that Bureau meant. While walking around in techno ruins, a deep talk happened between me and Central. Not exactly Bureau stuff, but for more personal reasoning, connecting back to barracks, hospitals, former energy plants, etc.

While he was speaking with proudness aobut the old XCOM, I decided to cut it straight to the point with another question of mine - if he was in the right mind to recruit Wagnerson after her betrayal. I had this thing in mind - if he's so willing to talk about the past today, then I have to try to cut loose ends finally.

Surprisingly, he did answer to me, with some positivity in his voice. He started with how he met her for the first time - being surprised by her being scared of other people and staying alone, except for the times around Ibanez.
John got used to commanding regular, mentally-healthy super-elite soldiers, the best of the best in the world during that time. Yet he somewhat enjoyed the fact that here's a person which definitely seems not right (PS: and I guess this is what led John to recruit Wrath Seeker later, no other explanation).

Out of this talk I also had a revelation about our Tygan predecessor, Moira Vahlen. John used to work with her for a long time, even before the invasion. Despite her definite spark into brutal interrogations, he somewhat... liked her? That's what I've got out of "cutie, yet a creepie too". There was also a fact that he got quite a smile out of listening to Vahlen's German speaking.

Combining this points together... I think that Central has developed a crush over Wagnerson. Well, she's German too, she's aggressive as hell as I know, yet not like other soldiers. Asking for the truth...

John said that yes, he did love Wagnerson. And still does. He was sad after the Commander was captured then, but even with the revelation that Wagnerson hated his commandship, Central still tried to do something in her favor - so she survives. Even when she betrayed him with rubber bullets, he ordered XCOM troopers to give her some ammo, food and full XCOM armor kit - so that she can have a chance in the wild territories. Otherwise, she'd have a war court over assaulting a superior officer.

Huh, John, so you actually saved her, not punished?.. but yep, that might actually make sense, how small it might be, considering what happened to war criminals after the invasion... And he recruited her back because of his old flame in his heart, while he also was away from Leslie - to remember what made him happy before his eventual wife appeared in his sight.

Finally, a truth - John did want to have an eye-candy on the base. Yet, it is creepy that he also loved (and still does love) her, albeit in "tough love" scenario, holding himself back, because of understandable taboo in the military about informal talks. Maybe the betrayal in 2015 wouldn't happen if he actually spent time with her, hmm?

Why he put a "Wanted" post on her though? The only answer was... recklessness. Yet he agreed to re-do the post, to include "bring her unharmed". Getting the truth out of this, I decided to ask about the Bureau now.

And damn me, but John did have codes for the archives! I've opened them, browsed through. Lots more questions, yet some answers. But to cement them all, I have to investigate something about EXALT - an XCOM rival back then.
Thankfully, XCOM was close to pin-pointing down their roots by the time of their defeat. The information is still in the data, fully intact.

And I'm putting it to the good use, as I'm going on there right now with John. Say hello, John.
