You Should Be Playing... Finding Paradise | Hidden Gems On PC
Our weekly series looks for hidden gems on PC, and this week Noa delves into the mind of a dying man in Finding Paradise. But don’t expect horror and grimness - this is an uplifting tale full of surreal humour and moving twists. What would you expect from the sequel to To The Moon?
There are so many hidden gems on PC, cult classics waiting to be discovered. In our You Should Be Playing series we pick one game a week and explain why it resonated with us. Hopefully we’ll uncover some great games you’ve missed and maybe you could suggest your own in the comments below. We’d like to hear from you.
Here’s why you should be playing Finding Paradise… it takes a mawkish subject but refuses to let itself slip into sentimentality. It deals with the messiness of aging and later life, but with a wit and warmth that escapes most storytellers. It also finds subtle ways to represent those ideas through its mechanics - it’s a gentle game to play, but there’s deeper meaning to everything it does.
This is quite simply one of the best written videogames of all time - structurally smart, and genuinely funny with it, poking fun at videogame conventions and given us two incredibly likable heroes to help guide us through depressing territory. We won’t give away much more than that as you really need to be discovering this for yourself.
But hey, I’m only repeating what’s already explained in the video. Watch that instead and within seven minutes I guarantee you’ll be asking yourself ‘why am I not playing Finding Paradise?’. Of course, we’d like to hear suggestions of games you think other people should be playing - maybe we’ll make a video about one of those, too.
