Young Super Freaks (Dev Log 1 - Basic Engine Pt. 1)
Surprise! Since I am very close to finishing Super Freaks 1 Ultimate, I've begun early engine work on its prequel, Young Super Freaks.
Young Super Freaks will be largely similar to Ultimate with two big gameplay changes:
One is 360 wallrunning, which can be seen here. Although it might look like Sonic surface level, it is coded very differently and I intend it to feel more like parkour with stamina rather than being about going fast.
The other is Unlimit Powers, something I excluded from Ultimate so I could keep that game close to its simplistic 2006 roots. If you've followed the Super Freaks for a while you'd probably know all of the crazy plans I have for Unlimit Powers throughout the series, but here they're simplified and work like the Quantum Masks from Crash 4.
If that doesn't excite you too much, know that I am planning on a true sequel to Ultimate that is far crazier and more experimental--Young Super Freaks is a way for me to keep making the more traditional DKC/Crash style level design as its own thing.
Anyways, don't expect much progress in the next week or two just because of my wild work schedule right now. Maybe over Thanksgiving break I can hustle again.
