#1049 Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (Wii) Bosses (3/3): Yami (1st Form) playthrough.
A playthrough of the 1st form of the boss Yami in the Wii port of Capcom/Eighting’s Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
1st form Yami is a bit less intimidating compared to his two later forms, mainly because he just looks like a giant shiny boulder rolling around all over the place. The fact that he attacks you with a mallet for two of his attacks doesn’t exactly help that much. Then you get hit by his spinning blades of death super and realise that you shouldn’t have underestimated him. Like his previous two forms, he has the same missiles special [qcf+P] and uses a mallet as well as a blade-saw for his normal attacks. He has two supers as well, one of which is his aforementioned spinning blade one [qcb+PP] and the other which is a quite unique super [qcf+PP], where he doesn’t do a dramatic amount of damage but actually heals damage upon a successful hit.
It’s also worth noting that, unlike Abyss, Yami actually has a hidden super-meter of sorts, like Igniz did in KOF 2001. You can’t use his supers at will like you could Abyss, but he seems to charge meters pretty quickly form what I could tell. Like before, Yami here can spam his missiles and potentially create quite a formidable spam-combo as a result of using them. Apart from that though, he’s pretty standard. Possibly a little less powerful than Yami’s two other forms, but that’s pretty much to be expected considering he’s the first form and all. That spinning blade super of his does deal some considerable damage, but against the Yami forms themselves it was surprisingly limited, and led to be not only being defeated by having to complete the game with my tag partner instead. Which, of course, was perfectly fine in this case as it meant I actually got to finish the game for once, instead of getting stuck in an infinite loop like before. All in all therefore, Yami was a weird choice for a boss, and all his forms are relatively limited, and yep I’m just inclined to like him. Such a weird, abstract choice and so out of left-field as a choice, it’s downright admirable, especially compared to what Capcom was later go on to do.
Still a fair amount of this game left to see however. Next up, it’s the hidden characters of this game, so “COME ON” and “FOLLOW ME” as we start on that.
