#1051 Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (Wii) Hidden Characters (2/5): Zero playthrough.
A playthrough of the hidden character Zero in the Wii port of Capcom’s Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars.
Apparently finally finding something to fight for, Zero was introduced as a hidden character in this version of the game.
This isn’t the first Zero video I’ve done; that would be his appearance in SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos. There however, it was actually the Megaman Zero version of Zero. Here, you have his classic and much beloved Mega Man X incarnation, and man did they do a good job with him here. For a start, Zero’s chain combo [L, M, H] is actually his three-slash combo from the X series, which is a really nice touch. Furthermore, most of his abilities are taken from the later X games, such as charge buster attack, diving slash move and dashing ability. He also flaming uppercut move, which is a meta inclusion as the boss he gained it from in Mega Man X4 was actually a parody of Ryu and Ken, and had both a hadouken and shoryuken as his regular attacks. Meaning that a move parodying a Capcom fighting game has now been included in a Capcom fighting game. Gotta love when something comes full circle.
Super move-wise, I don’t think he’s too great, at least in an innate sense. He has a delayed super where he rains down laser beams on the opponent, which works better the closer they are to you, as well as a buff-move where a shadow-clone of Zero will appear during certain attacks and do extra hits and damage as a result. His hyper-combo is pretty good though, if someone standard.
What makes Zero really stand out is that he is a goddamn beast when it comes to combos. He has a command move [f+H] which seems to link into more or less anything, including his multi-hit H attack. Which means you can do a three-hit combo, then that dashing command move, and then his flaming uppercut as well, for a pretty respectable amount of damage, and it barely takes any skill to do. His heavy attack can also be linked into an aerial combo, as you’d expect, which can lead to him then leading into a further combo and his flaming uppercut as a finisher to said combo.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing as Zero here therefore; there’s a ton of detail and care given to his inclusion here, and he was really pretty damn fun to play as. A solid inclusion on Capcom’s part, though I won’t deny as a Mega Man fan I was probably always inclined to enjoying playing as him regardless.
Up next, it’s on to the Tatsunoko characters.
