-Another trilogy comes to a close! The greatest of all time? If we're talking cinema, perhaps? but 16 bit, no the Snes has better, however the series is held in high regard by many and given its great looks, honest interpretation of the movies and notorious fun (and difficult) gameplay, that's probably fair! I would argue however, this time it feels like LucasArts definitely made a conceted effort to simmer the challenge down quite a bit.
As always the option to play as multiple characters for many of the stages is there. Despite a more limited selection of Force powers than in Empire, Luke still easily proves the favoured selection, thanks somewhat to his sabre's block feature, but mostly because of that awesome Lightsabre spin jump attack.
Chewie still earns a selection tho, thanks to his incredibly handy spin attack leaving him temporarily invincible. This proves invaluable against bosses! I never gave Leia enough of a chance to impress preferring to play as Han in the later stages. You even get to play as the Ewok; Wicket on a couple of stages and despite one being the (2nd) worst in the whole game, he's actually pretty fun to play control!
The regular addition of checkpoints balances the frustration well tho unlike Empire, Passwords restart the whole stage.
The usual assault of insanity the series is accustomed to throwing at you is still very much the same but the obvious attempt to tone down boss difficulty renders the game far easier & arguably more enjoyable. There are exceptions tho!
Aside from the aforementioned Wicket stage, the final Death Star escape level is one of the most bullshit shovelling, ball bustingly awful nightmares I've ever had the misfortune to play. Just "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?"
A good end to the series, but far from the trilogies best. As with the movies, Empire really is the greatest!
