Here is of my full playthrough of Total Carnage done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states!
Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.

-Phew, a moment to breath! Nothing brings the frantic, nail biting arcade frenzy to the home console better than Beam Softwares Smash TV. Its a traumatic experience I've twice had the delight of beating on both the Snes and its older brother and once again I find myself in the lions den with sequel that's just as ferocious!
All the wacky, violent and morally questionable antics of Smash TV are still in abundance, instead simply replacing the gameshow aesthetic for that of the battlefield. A psychotic megalomaniac, baring a rather less subtle nod to North Korea's Kim Ill Sung, must be stopped from unleashing the forces of whatever hellish nightmare could ever spawn the boss Orcus from (trust me he's a sight to remember). Two steroid fuelled marines are what's left between victory and the enslavement of all mankind. Okay, so maybe I improvised the story some.. but you get the idea!
The difficulty is high and the fatigue is relentless. As with Smash TV, 8-way directional movement and fire offered through your controller returns, as does the incredible suffering both your thumbs and wrists undergo as a result. Quick reflexes and instant decision making are vital to battling the endless hoards of progressively more challenging encounters each area boasts.
Extra lives are awarded at random and despite their short on screen appearance, their arrival is fairly plentiful. Thank god too because this game is insanely hard and you'll need all the lives you can muster.
Coming in at 1 stage less, overall it does fell shorter and considerby easier than Smash TV, especially with only 2 bosses this time (tho both are incredibly tough). Even so, this game has been labelled one of the system most notoriously hard, one which many say is almost impossible in single player! I guess that statement stands corrected now, but I'd be lying as to call it easy. There's skill, mastery and some luck required to tame this beast. Item drops are random so whether you get those extra lives and invincibility belts is all a game of chance!
A fun game with a fantastic original control style. Still, please, no more games in the franchise, I just can't handle another one!
