#11 ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST - PLAYTHROUGH (Final Dungeon) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past on done live on IGTV. Due to space restrictions I was only able to record the final part of the playthrough.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
-Every generation has its Zelda game to define the landscape of RPG gaming. Time and again, the franchise proves to be the benchmark for excellence in open world adventure, with nearly every new game engine proving equally as, or even more successful than the last. While some have lorded the mark of excellence for longer than others, Nintendo always prove capable of reclaiming the top spot eventually, as Breathe of the Wilde more recently demonstrated. Bells and whistles aside however, my love affair with the series began with its first entry in simple 8-bit and only took 1 sequel to deliver my favourite game still to this day.
Though my top spot was never shaken by any future installments, the arrival of Link in 16-bit was enough to shake up many other peoples, much like a certain 64-bit one did 7 years later. It's fair to say that had I actually owned 'Link to the Past' growing up, it could have been a different story, tho despite the right ingredients of owning a SNES & being a huge fan of the series, it was my brother who made the decisions on what snes games we bought and sadly Zelda was never his jam. While it's true Hyrule was considerably more fleshed out in Zelda 2 thanks to the inclusion of the towns, it really took the power of the snes to truly bring to life the quirky, colourful characters and diverse landscapes that have become the mainstay for Hyrule ever since. Still nothing beats "I Am Error!"
Not having that strong 'link to the past' I have with other Zelda games, means beating this one is never the stress free experience I'm used too from its peers. Though I have beaten it multiple times, puzzles and locations are simply not laminated into my minds eye, the way they are from the ones I played as a kid (or perhaps my introduction to alcohol had something to answer for?)
Tho I failed to locate every heart piece and solve every puzzle on this occasion, I'm happy to move on and set aside the game ready for its next playthrough some years down the line, no doubt once again completely blinded of knowhow. Perhaps the alcohol is a blessing after all?
