#50 Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures - FULL PLAYTHROUGH (Normal Mode) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my full playthrough of Indiana Jones on done live on IGTV.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
-Unlike Star Wars, Lucas's lovechild with Spielberg didnt receive the same red carpet treatment with its own 16-bit trilogy of games, despite both Lucasarts & Factor 5 again piloting the project. Instead, Indy's 3 adventures (dont get me started on Crystal Skull, Crusade is bad enough!), are confined into one continuous playthrough with story told through stages based loosely on scenes from the movies & rather slow text scroll between levels.
Theres lots of positives; the music while edited down slightly, features all of the series greats, there's even some impressive voice samples. Much like the Star Wars games, the graphics look just as inviting with movie locations realised nicely, even going so far as to incorporate that sense of terror to accompany scenes from inside the Temple of Doom - or maybe that's just me reliving childhood trauma, damn that's a dark film! (tho perhaps 'Temple of Bats' would be more fitting title in this game!). Its a shame tho that there seems to be a sacrifice in content for each movie as the game progresses.
Control feels somewhat more awkward than Star Wars too. When you fully appreciate how everything works its okay, but in heated moments, the control feels complicated, proving to be more of a handicap. Take running and shooting; press shoot after run, all's well. Shoot before running and you're stuck rooted to the spot. This has obvious advantages when on small platforms tho until comfortable it causes as much frustration as reward.
In a manor that befits the movies, Indy's whip is your most proficient mode of attack. Control is nothing near as neat as if a Belmont were handling it but its serviceable.
The difficulty is noticeably easier than Star Wars, notably due to the gift of a password every few levels. This serves to pacify some of the less than satisfactory gameplay elements; falling through platforms, unfair hazards, glitchy bosses (tho that has its advantages as the end clip demonstrates).
Overall an enjoyable game but it's hard to escape a sense that had their been confidence enough to sell this as 3 games, there would have been room for much improvement.
