#82 D-FORCE - FULL PLAYTHOUGH (Normal Mode 4 Lives) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my Full playthrough of D-Force on Normal mode with 4 Lives done live on IGTV.
Follow me on instagram @CabinSNES_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES colleciton, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW
-In truth, beating all these Snes games has weakened me! Of the 81 already fallen, very few have truly pushed me through the critical pain threshold! On the NES the experience was far more commonplace, I've become spoilt & self entitled, well D-Force was here to reset the equilibrium!
It's fair to say did I not love shumps, the cacophony of awful reviews D-Force receives would have kept me well clear. Instead, admiration for the genre stole my curiosity & armed with my usual casual resistance to bad reviews, I purchased a very affordable copy.
First impressions are far from overwhelming. Graphically its uninspiring, sharing more in common with 8-bit shooters of the NES which given its 91 release date maybe fair. Gameplay also offers little original but it's a shooter so you know, shoot stuff, it manages that at least!
Besides a wonky hit box, choppy frame rate, sporadic difficulty curve & the usual hampering of snes hardware slowdown, the exclusion of extra lives seems rather harsh especially when you quickly learn that the "Infinite continues" are included purely as a salt rubbing exercise by the programmers. After stage 2, you have ZERO chance of powering-up your chopper from the basic gun upon using a continue... Zero chance, so get used to that reset button!
Mercifully losing a life only downgrades your chopper by one power stage and tho starting with 9 lives is optionally, rules of my challenge dictate only beating starting settings, which meant 4!
Bizarrely the difficulty is wildly different between stages. The challenge for the 'exploration' stages; exterminating Dinosaurs & Greek mythology (???), utilising 2 altitudes of attack via awful Mode 7 zoom effect is utterly redundant & the bosses are beyond a joke. Unfortunately the polar opposite is true of the remaining 4 'Shooting' stages.
With an incredible amount of practice & all 7 stages burnt so deeply into my memory I can play them in my sleep, a slim chance of beating it presents itself.
Even with the aid of Pause Buffering, shadows of my incredible struggle to beat Xevious last year is all too familiar. I like shumps, but not when they physically age me!
