REVIEW:
-What happens when you turn a fierce and furious shooter into a cute & cuddly one? Well you get 'Parodius' but before that Konami created 'Twinbee'; an equally delightful Cute-em Up, which does plenty to keep it a fresh alternative to the Gradius franchise.

16-bit saw the creation of 'Pop'N Twinbee' which furthers the Cuter Shooter experience beautifully. Why stop there? Konami took the bold move to flip the genre on its head by pushing out a sequel, as a platformer instead. The cuteness isnt lost, instead the charm of the previous games is at its core.

It's hard to ignore other popular influences with Konami's own Rocket Knight a clear one given Twinbee's jet pack style move. Much like in Rocket Knight, using the attack is fun but punishing if not used carefully. You can even chain the jet move indefinitely so long as you dont hit anything. The comedy continues if you jet straight up, seemingly infinitely, eventually reaching outer space!

Another unmistakable influence appears to be Sonic. Both in the fast paced action & the huge maze like stages which take place on multiple levels. Finding the exit is often confusing even tho its location is marked on the map from the beginning.

I've read the Japanese original was designed predominantly around a 'collectathon' aesthetic, giving multiple endings based on your collection rate. Alas, since the Western release removed the save battery, its fairly pointless collecting everything & saving the faries, unless you plan to finish the whole game in one sitting.

It's nice the powerup system remains true to the franchise, with different coloured bells offering numerous different upgrades. There's plenty about, rendering the challenge very tame throughout.

With infinite continues & a password system it's an extremely casual playthrough especially thanks to very easy boss encounters.

A fun little platformer nonetheless which also offers simultaneous 2-player gameplay, tho it should prove little challenge to most players.
