#83 EARTHWORM JIM - FULL PLAYTHROUGH (Normal Mode) - Beating My Snes Games
Here is my Full playthrough of Earthworm Jim on Normal mode done live on IGTV.
REVIEW
-Some titles do seem to raise the hackles of warring console fans & Earthworm Jim continues to invite debate as to its superior 16-bit port even today. Since only owning the Snes version, I have no choice but to find myself camped on the Nintendo side of the fence, it would therefore be unfair to lambast the Megadrive so I'll simply fence hop the argument all together and summarise the general consensus that besides the usual differences in hardware aesthetics acquired through the faster & Grungier look & sound of the MD compared with the richer palettes & orchestral chip in the Snes, the over design & gameplay is almost identical on each. Infact Shiny Entertainment even went so far as to program certain stages on either console, porting results to the opposite machines. Surely that does enough to quiet any argument that one machine was the preferred platform for production?
Whatever one you choose, I doubt you'll be disappointed. The legendarily absurd gameplay on offer in Earthworm Jim is second to none. Who doesn't love catapulting cows, giant robot chickens or a snot bungee? The fact you're controlling an Earthworm, fitted into a bipedal space suit is barely scratching the surface!
With such an incredible array of bizarre enemies, all of which proudly showoff the love & attention programmers have given each design, the shortcomings of other games choices; sacrificing control over character animation (looking at you B.O.B) might be expected. In contrast, EJ delivers one of the most attractive looking games of its era with almost no handicap to gameplay. Its remarkable!
The diversity in gameplay & stage design is equally rewarding, with each demanding it's own unique challenges. Tho gameplay is fairly punishing for novices, practice quickly replaces frustration with fun as you improve.
Dont underestimate the word practice tho, you definitely need it! I would strongly recommend mastering the collection of 50 pods in the Andy Asteroid stages to award more continues.
Who'd have thought a platforming earthworm could be this fun? I wont ever be able to look at another worm without internally shouting 'GROOOOOOVY'!
