And as expected, I beat the game on the third stream... though admittedly, it took longer than I expected -- that is, about as long as the first two, despite having less stages left than what I tackled in the earlier sessions. Still, this is probably the first game I've played this year where I'm completely relieved to be done with it. The Simpsons Game was never able to shake off that "7/10" feeling throughout its entirety and now that it's done, I'm just ready to move onto something else.
It's a damn shame that Marge's gameplay was probably the most interesting this game had to offer, but also the one that showed up the least in game. I didn't even get that team-up between Marge and her special little guy that I was hoping to see last time. Maybe it was just more difficult to program her segments compared to everyone else? Either way, the game's "forced" co-op didn't really help things, especially with its piss-poor AI. Hell, Marge's minions seemed to have better AI than your in-game partners and that's pathetic.
I am still a little creeped out that the titles of the two previous episodes were the only arcade machines in the final level though. That was... a total accident on my part. Had no idea about those Easter eggs. I just thought it would be fun to name each of these episodes after a video game that appeared in the TV show. The final boss fight was interesting, but I still think that the Matt Groening fight was probably the best part of the game and that probably should've been the ending. Wouldn't have raised the score, but the final level just felt like a step down by comparison.
I guess if I had to look on the bright side, I'm impressed that they managed to translate this much of the game to a previous-gen console. Sure, some stuff apparently got cut, but it gave me a pretty good idea of what the "real" game has to offer. Not sure if I'd pay a premium for it if it got a re-release at some point, but maybe I'd toss EA $10 or $15 to see what advantages the seventh-gen version had over this if they ported it to PC.
