I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of shocked that the game in the fifth slot won the first two rolls. Almost makes me think that maybe I'm gonna be playing the final game added to the rotation next. Oh well, that's what happens when you determine your play order by dice roll. Granted, the fact that I had to start with Squaresoft RPGs two years in a row should've clued me into the fact that the dice are cursed by now.
Suda Goichi -- or Suda51 -- is the "auteur" game designer I respect and adore the most. And yet, my experience with his games is shockingly limited. My first Suda51 game -- both in terms of the order in which I played it and the order it came out -- was the original No More Heroes on the Wii. Since then, I've played its sequel, Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer Is Dead and Sine Mora. killer7 (or more accurately, its PC remaster) is going to be my first foray into his more... eccentric back catalog. Having said that, I do have a few of his earlier games on-hand: Hell, I've had the Gamecube version of killer7 for years. I've just never gotten around to them. That's a big part of what inspires me to pick specific games for these streams in the first place.
Having said that, killer7 had a rough start for me. Yet, I can't really say that I hate it. Honestly, if there's one upside to KI sequestering himself (as he hasn't played the game himself... and he wants to, at some point), it's allowing me to experiment more and killer7 is either the best or worst game I'm playing all year to experiment with, just due to how unorthodox the entire thing is. Using buttons to move? The English translation is purposefully vague? I should hate this game... yet somehow, I'm absolutely enamored.
That's probably because of my aforementioned love for Suda51. While I seem to be the only person on the face of the planet that sees Hideo Kojima for the troll he is (and believe it or not, I respect him for that), Suda51 fills that space in my cruel, dead heart. In fact, from what I've seen of killer7's storyline so far, it seems like this might have been Goichi's answer to Metal Gear.
