HdE'S TOTALLY UNORIGINAL GAMING SHOW S04, E01 ALIEN REVIEW FOR ATARI 2600. In space, no one can hear you waggle an Atari joystick controller! I kick off the fourth season of the Totally Unoriginal Gaming Show with the first in a series of reviews looking at video game adaptations of the Alien movie franchise. And what better way to start than by looking at the very first officially licensed game based on this monstrous franchise?

Although Alien has become firmly entrenched in the modern pop culture landscape, it's worth remembering that once, like all things (even me!) it was a fairly new, exciting thing. And this game hails from a time before Ridley Scott's powerhouse sci-fi horro movie had blossomed into a major media property. In 1982, when it released for the Atari 2600, there was no sequel, no mass of spin-off material, and thus very little for developers to work from.

What Atari owners got back then was, at first glance, a simple Pac-Man clone. But when you think about it, this actually suits the game reasonably well, with its maze running gameplay kind of recalling the spine chilling scene from the movie where Captain Dallas ventures into the vents of the Nostromo in search of the xenomorph that earlier erupted from his crewman's chest. Except, quite a few liberties have been taken here. Now, you're supposedly trampling over alien eggs in the corridors of your spaceship, while being hunted by THREE bloodthirsty aliens!
