An Indie RPG Roguelike Base Builder + a Taste of Angband! – Guild Master Demo –
Guild Master is an Indie, Action RPG Roguelike / Roguelite Dungeon Crawler with Random Dungeon lvls focused on base building and crafting, offering a Taste of Angband.
Guild Master is good.
Guild Master is an RPG:
Right at the start, you can visually customize your character, with gender as well; good.
As you perform tasks, you get better at them, like in Skyrim, but here, the skills are combat, mining, farming, gathering, and fishing.
As you increase your combat skill, you gain new active abilities; nice.
In Guild Master, much of the character power progression is tied to the building and crafting systems, as much of your gear upgrades come from crafting, which you gather the materials to make from your dungeon runs.
You can also build structures in your base that increase your max health or your damage; like a hearth in your keep that warms you, training dummies to practice your moves; etc.
Guild Master is a Roguelike:
As a Roguelike, Guild Master offered Procedural Generation of the dungeons, with random dungeons helping to keep the dungeon exploration interesting.
Unlike many other roguelikes, you’re not just sweeping and clearing the dungeon of foes and treasure, you’re also mining it for resources.
You can gather materials like stone and wood, and other, rarer components in the dungeons to build up your keep, and craft more gear, making your character stronger and stronger for each returning run.
If you die, you are teleported back to the keep, reforming in the basement, ready to try again, so if permadeath is not something you like in your RPGs, Guild Master could be of great interest to you.
Within the random dungeons, you can find Fonts of Power, which grant a pick of 1 of 3 power ups; like 10% increased speed, armor +4, 10% increase damage; powerful and impactful stuff that stacks up to 3 times; these only last for the dungeon run, but are very powerful.
Guild Master also lets you select from 1 of 3 difficulties, right at the start; an excellent features not often seen in Roguelike or Roguelites, as many of them make you unlock the higher difficulties later, not so here; good.
Angband Influenced Dungeons:
Also unlike many other roguelikes, the random dungeons in Guild Master are not the exact same layout twice, as it follows the path of Anband, and of Moria, where the dungeons / mines / forests are simply so vast and labyrinthine, that you can never get back to the same place twice.
Meaning, if you leave that dungeon, you might not get the same layout the next time, adding some incentive to keep pushing if one has the blessing and loot you want.
Note: This is an early look at the Steam demo for Guild Master so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Guild Master is a fun Indie, Action RPG Roguelike / Roguelite Dungeon Crawler with Random Dungeon lvls focused on base building and crafting.
Guild Master is good, and is easily well worth a wishlist and a watch.
