A 2D ARPG Mage Double Jump & Dash Diablo like? – An Amazing Wizard Prologue –
An Amazing Wizard Prologue is an Indie, 2D ARPG with Procedural Generation, think a Sidescroller magic mixing and blasting Diablo + a double jump and dash; it’s good!
A Sidescroller Diablo like?
Sort of
They both share the random dungeons, with the Procedural Generation helping to insure each run feels different from the last, as well as the strong and impactful ARPG combat and character progression, along with a very strong solo main character, who very soon, will be blasting apart hordes of enemies, and collecting their sweet, sweet drops.
There is also powerful loot and weapons in chests to find, with interesting gear drops to choose from for your run.
A difference between An Amazing Wizard and old school Diablo is in the Meta Progression, whereas in Diablo, you had your chest storage and unlimited corpse runs if you dropped, so the ability to maintain progress across multiple runs was present, even in the case of a death, and an unrecoverable corpse, in a non-hardcore run at least.
While here in An Amazing Wizard, the Meta Progression is a constant thing, as after each run, you go back to the Astral Plane with your gems spoils, to earn more unlocks and to do another run.
As an Action Roguelike / Action Roguelite, An Amazing Wizard is all about the real time blasting, where you jump, dash, and magic blast your way through the randomly generated, elemental lvls, looking for new spells to better defeat your many enemies.
There are a lot of enemies on these maps, and they will chase you if they become aware of you, jumping, climbing, and tracking you down; pick your battles wisely wizard!
Meta Progression:
Meta Progression is a strong focus of An Amazing Wizard, much like Rogue Legacy, a game An Amazing Wizard seems to take some influences from.
The Meta Progression here is present in the many forms of crystals and elemental orbs you find per run, which are used in-between those runs to make your character permanently stronger, find new items, changing elements in the world, as well as unlocking new wizards.
Controller support is present, as is good old mouse and keyboard control.
I went mostly with mouse and keyboard in the above video, as I found the giant, neon purple crosshair present using 2 of the gamepad setting very visually distracting, and did not want to be reduced to being only able to fire in my current facing; thus good old mouse and keyboard it was.
Note: This is the free Prologue of An Amazing Wizard so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, An Amazing Wizard is offering an Indie, Action Roguelite with a strong Meta Progression that is challenging, and good, and is easily worth a wishlist, and a watch.
