It took me so long to find an appropriate map for this mod. Yes, I could've just played the included map for the NFR, but it's simply put too short for this kind of gameplay mod. Most other maps just won't do, either having too many combat or the platforming proving too difficult. Yet, the most unusual map (that was meant to be a joke wad of all things) turned out to be just the perfect map for this, and so begins the first NFR of Another World.

While I've never actually played the game itself, I know that it's a particularly unforgiving one. Naturally, the difficulty was also translated to this mod. There's no HUD, you could only somewhat guess how many ammo you have on your blaster by the light indicators on the thing, you don't move nor jump as fast as Doomguy, and above all else, one hit is all it takes. Be it laser shot, bites, fall damage, environmental hazards (not nukage, thankfully, it's neutralized in this mod), or even a mosquito bite, and it's curtains down for you. It surpassed HDest in the "you can't play this map with this mod" department somehow. Thankfully, most low tier enemies share the same durability.

You only have one weapon, but it's a versatile one. It takes about one to two shots to kill most low tier enemies, and even bosses fell easy with this thing. It can also make shields and do a charged shot. Naturally, your enemies share the same abilities. Suffice to say that combat's hectic and all tense with this mod.

Regarding the map, originally the entire thing uses D2 textures. I figured why not make a small retexture set using the stuff from the Cave Demo included in the AW mod? It's not exactly perfect, but it fits the tone I feel. I've also modified AW itself, due to the jump height being just a pinch too low for me to reliably climb up ledges. Not to gravity defying levels, just enough for me to get up those tricky ledges. There's small bit in the map where the yellow key is that I had to modify 'cause you could get stuck once you nab the key, rather silly I find. Lastly, I played with the Freedoom IWAD this time, mix up the sprites and sounds a pinch.

Will there be more of this? Perhaps. Maps that have big open exploratory areas, sparse enemies, and heart pumping platforming are extremely few and far between, so any further excursions with this might take a while to get to. You can be sure that I'll be there at once if one is available.
