Anthem Demo - i5 4690K & GTX 1070 - FPS Test and Settings
Greetings, everyone.
Today we’re testing the Anthem PC open demo, which is currently running for this weekend, so anyone can play it.
My current PC specs are the following:
-CPU: i5 4690K@4.4 GHz with Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO.
-Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger (Z97).
-GPU: Inno3D Twin X2 GTX 1070 (stock) and driver 417.58.
-RAM: 16 GB DDR3@1866, 9-10-9-28.
-Storage: Kingston SSDNow 300, 240 GB (O.S.), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB (Game).
-O.S: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit with latest updates.
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz
Before I got into this demo, I already knew that things were going to feel rough, because I was aware of all the comments from people who already played the previous demo a few days ago, which was a VIP demo available if you preordered the game.
Suffice to say, things haven’t changed a lot since then, and the now open demo for Anthem leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. For one simple reason, this is not labeled as an alpha, nor a beta, it’s a demo which, by standards, should be a slice of the final product so the consumer can try the stuff and make an informed decision about whether to buy the complete package, or not. This is what video game demos should be, this is what they used to be, at least; Hell, even this very month we had a prime example on how to properly deliver a demo, in the case of Resident Evil 2 so, come on BioWare and EA, we’re not stupid, this is not a demo i: 1) It’s currently in the poor state it is…, and 2) You said it yourselves that the code in this demo is not that recent so…what gives? Why doing this and not another set of beta tests? In a rush perhaps? Well, not our fault, as customers we get access to what we can, that’s how it is.
Anyway, as we can see in the video, it seems like an impossible task to achieve stable 60 FPS at 1080p on a rig like mine, surely old on the CPU side, but the same rig runs the likes of ME Andromeda or BF1 at 90 FPS no problems with pretty beefy settings, so there’s not a real excuse for a game like Anthem, that has clearly been downgrade since its E3 2017 “Xbox One X 4K Enhanced” showcase, to run this bad 20 days before official launch...that here is the real issue, launch is right around the corner, nothing more, nothing less.
So, not much to go for here, there’s barely any performance gain from lowering any settings, only the Low preset offers a bit more performance at the expense of making the game look really bad so no thanks, that’s not how it’s supposed to look like.
Honestly I have no intention on buying this game for release, that’s for sure, nothing against BioWare, I love their past IPs, but this Anthem stuff seems really rushed to me, as of today, and the demo is proof of that.
As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you, and I’ll see you in the next one : )
