Apex Legends Lore: How Respawn Tells The Story
Between Fortnite, PUBG, and Call of Duty: Warzone, the battle royale scene is pretty crowded these days. But Apex Legends continues to set itself apart with a world of rich lore. How developer Respawn Entertainment tells this tale as just as fascinating as the story itself.
Apex Legends launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in February 2019. It started with eight playable characters, and that number has doubled since. New characters, cinematic trailers, and changes to the maps are the three ways Respawn tells the story of Apex. We examine these methods in this video essay: they may be distinct methods, but they all overlap to create Apex’s rich tapestry.
Since launch, the shooter has also made its way to PS5 and Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch version coming soon. As of the time of this video, we’re knee-deep in Season 8, which introduced us to the explosives expert Fuse. Respawn says it’s already working on content through Season 11, so there’s plenty more to come!
