Apollo Direct Ascent was one of the three proposed methods to get people to the Moon. It never flew, becouse the Lunar Orbit Rendezvous strategy was chosen, as it required much smaller launch vehicle. Hovever, Apollo Direct Ascent project had its advantages - it could get not two, but three people on the surface of our natural satelite. On the other side, the launch vehicle required to do that was enormous - mission required (never built) Saturn C8 launch vehicle, the rocket over 130 meters high and 4770 metric tons in weight - almost twice as much as the historic Saturn V and even more than SpaceX's proposed Big Falcon Rocket. That monstrous launch vehicle was powered by the 8 F-1A engines in its first stage, followed by 8 J-2Ss in its second stage and single J-2S in its third stage. That power allowed it to launch 74 metric tons to Lunar Orbit Insertion, allowing to launch spaceship, that could land on Moon and return to Earth directly, without any docking
