Aubergine run: 1P (Dark Embryo defeated!)


So... finally, my first win against Dark Embryo! =)

For those of you who don't know about Dark Embryo, he's basically a more powerful version of Embryo: Dark Embryo is faster, fires more bullets, and has more health than normal Embryo. He appears on Layer 32 of Infinity Drive, as well as occasionally (randomly) in Daily Drive.

A brief history of Dark Embryo:

SMishra (of Witch Beam) has implied before that Dark Embryo was in the original (8.0) version of Infinity Drive (ID). However, because ID 8.0 hadn't been difficulty-adjusted perhaps as much as it should have been... no one actually got far enough in that first version of Infinity Drive to see him (he was probably on Layer 32 (just like he is in the current version), but getting to Layer 32 was a lot harder in 8.0 than it is in 11.0). =)

So, since nobody actually saw Dark Embryo in ID 8.0, I believe the first public appearance of the special Boss was actually in "Finite Drive", the special PAX/TGS limited-Layer version of ID. From what I understand, Dark Embryo was the final boss, appearing on the final Layer.

In Daily Drive, however, he can probably (from what I understand) appear on any Layer. In fact, I think the very first time he appeared in the Dailies, it was on Layer 1 of a 2P Daily!

In this Daily Drive, though, he appeared on Layer 4... which is definitely a better Layer to meet him on than Layer 1, since by Layer 4, you're much more likely to have a Level 3 or 4 primary weapon (which'll definitely help against Dark Embryo!), instead of the Level 1 primary you'd have at the beginning of Layer 1.

Anyway, Dark Embryo did knock me down a couple times during the battle (I'm still getting used to some of the bullet patterns, especially the Phase 5 patterns)... but I did manage to beat him! =)

So anyway, here's my first victory against Dark Embryo, so... hope you enjoy!

1:53 (and 3:12) I was tempted to pick up the Shutdown, but because Dark Embryo has so much health, I think (though I may be wrong, since I don't have all that much experience against Dark Embryo) Firepower (which lasts a lot longer than Shutdown) might be a better choice for Aubergine against Dark Embryo. If I were playing someone who could do a lot more damage a lot more quickly (like Shiitake or Cactus), however, I probably would've grabbed the Shutdown. =)

6:33 Longest chain ends (419) due to knockdown (mine cannister). Heh, now that I look at it more closely, I think the singularity actually pulled the mine towards Aubergine; I was actually aiming for the laser turret (where the singularity wouldn't have had any effect on the mines), but unfortunately, the rocket dog got in the way. ^^;
