Assault Android Cactus (PC/Steam)
Early Access Version 150306c (2015 Mar 06)

Stage 5-4: Collider (formerly "Showdown")
S+ run using Peanut

So I decided to try Peanut vs. Liquorice. =)

For some reason, Peanut gave me a lot more trouble against Liquorice than either Cactus or Aubergine. =p But on the plus side, I got to practice the enemy waves leading up to Liquorice so many times that I started to experiment with more general Peanut strategies... and I made an interesting discovery!

(Quick note: see "infinite drill circles" Revolution video (link near bottom of this description) for examples of IDC-flanking, and read that video's description for more information about the IDC)

There's actually a more practical use for Peanut's "infinite drill circles" (IDC) trick than IDC-flanking!

Basically: Reapers.

Because of their teleport behaviors, reapers will tend to appear along the edge of an enclosed arena more often than most other enemies. More importantly, however, is that once they appear, they'll actually stay still for a short amount of time!

So if multiple reapers appear along a wall, you have a brief window of opportunity to use the IDC to drill through them all. =)

So I started experimenting with short arcs to destroy 2-4 reapers at a time... and found that to be pretty effective! It's something quick and simple that can be incorporated into pretty much any player's Peanut playstyle as a perfectly viable option, if/when the opportunity (reapers lined up along the edge) presents itself. =)

But then I started thinking... if reapers tend to try to teleport behind you... doesn't that mean that while you're in the middle of an IDC, any reapers that teleport will end up along the wall behind you? And if so, would the IDC be fast enough to circle the arena and hit them from behind before the Chain Timer ran out?

As it turns out... yes, while you're doing an IDC, reapers will tend to teleport in along the wall behind you (sometimes a reaper will appear far enough away from the wall, though, so the IDC won't be able to hit it). And yes, on Collider, there is enough time for the IDC to circle the arena and hit the reapers that appear behind you. =)

In other words, instead of just doing a short arc to destroy a few reapers, you can actually do multiple laps of the arena to destroy even more! In one of my test runs, I actually managed to destroy all 8 reapers (though a couple of them were slightly damaged before I beagn the IDC) in that phase of the battle... with a single IDC! =) In this S+ run, I managed to destroy 7 of 8 (one of them teleported in far enough away from the wall that the IDC didn't hit it).

So... yeah. IDC as an anti-Reaper strategy. =)

As far as anti-Liquorice strategies, once again, I've found that Accelerate is probably the most generally useful powerup (it can be used for offensive positioning, defensive maneuvering, and for pulling the battery towards you (and away from Liquorice)).

As far as Peanut-specific strategies, I found that hitting the floor with magma and getting Liquorice to step on those patches (instead of trying to hit Liquorice directly with the magma) tended to work fairly well. =)

Anyway, here it is! This is actually my first ever Peanut vs. Collider S+. Enjoy!

0:32 IDC destroys 7 reapers. =)
