Assault Android Cactus: FPS Mode - Cactus vs. Boss Rush S+ (12.0)
Assault Android Cactus (PC/Steam)
Early Access Version 150306c (2015 Mar 06)
AAC FPS Mode!
Boss Rush (12.0): Embryo, Vespula, Justice
S+ run using Cactus
So, those of you who've been following AAC know that Witch Beam has been planning to add EX Options to AAC for quite a while, and one of the EX Modes they've been planning to add is a mode that turns Assault Android Cactus from a twin stick shooter... to a First Person Shooter! In Update Alpha (12.0), EX Options were added... and sure enough, one of the new EX Modes is "First Person Camera". =)
Since AAC wasn't really designed to be a FPS game, there are naturally going to be some aspects of the game which don't migrate from twin stick shooter to first person shooter... quite as smoothly as other aspects. But overall, it is playable, and can be pretty fun. =)
Anyway, after trying out FPS Mode on a couple normal (non-boss) levels and one boss level (Embryo), I decided to try Boss Rush. Which might seem like a weird choice, but based on the stages I'd played in FPS mode, it seemed like having only one enemy to concentrate on could be advantageous, given the much more limited view of the arena (and where enemies are in the arena) in FPS Mode, compared to the normal twin stick shooter mode.
I decided to go with Cactus, since her advantages (no range-based damage penalty on her primary, and extremely high damage on her secondary) seemed like they'd work well in an FPS Boss Rush.
And yes, I used keyboard+mouse, because although I'm more comfortable with a controller for twin stick shooters, I find that for FPS games, k+m works a lot better for me. =)
Anyway, due to the slightly different nature of FPS Mode, compared to normal mode, I did have to figure out some slightly different strategies in a few places... so it did take a while, but I did finally manage to get my first FPS Boss Rush S+... and here it is! Enjoy!
0:07 Embryo
0:57 Vespula
2:06 Justice
Oh, and if anybody was wondering, yes I did intentionally leave a colored Powerup on the field at the end of the Vespula battle, so that I'd have it available during Phase 1 of the Justice battle. I found Justice's Phase 1 was the part of FPS Boss Rush that gave me the most trouble, because of the fact that all of the grid lasers are at eye level, so once the grid is set up, it becomes extremely difficult to tell one laser from another, and how far away the nearest laser is (you can briefly see this effect at around 2:18).
So finishing off Phase 1 as quickly as possible seemed like the best strategy to use. ^^; And that's why I saved a Powerup from the Vespula battle. =)
Random additional note: I like how at around 2:22 it looks like Cactus darts between Justice's legs as a shortcut to get around to the other side of him. =)
