354In this tutorial I show you the best SteelSeries Sonar settings for gaming. These settings will help improve game audio and hear footsteps better. Additionally, the Media and Aux settings can help make movies and music sound better.
Another useful feature of SteelSeries Sonar is the ability to remove background noise from your chat, which could be Discord or in game. This can help remove distracting audio and ensure you can hear gameplay properly. With Sonar you can adjust the ClearCast Noise Cancellation setting to remove background noise from your chat.
Depending on your preference you can even add a preset equalization for your chat. This will alter how people sound and can be used to either make your friends sound more professional.
With SteelSeries Sonar you can set up different sound settings for Gaming, Media, and Aux. This allows you to customize how you want your game to sound to help you hear footsteps better, while also fine tuning the way your movies and music sounds.
If you play a variety of games then the Black Ops 6 preset provides a good base configuration. However, to get the best SteelSeries Sonar settings you will need to customize the preset to make it easier to hear footsteps in FPS games, and improve the overall audio. If you play games like Valorant and Call of Duty then these setitngs will work fairly well with or without any adjustments.
With the game settings you also have the option to enable spatial audio. While this may seem like a good idea, many people will find it easier to hear footsteps with spatial audio turned off. I recommend playing with spatial audio enabled and disabled to see what works best for you. However, for the best spatial audio settings you’ll want to set the top slider to -12, and the Distance to 75.
To get the best chat settings in SteelSeries Sonar you will want to enable clearcast noise cancellation. With clearcast enabled background noise will be removed from people you are talking to. However, the results will vary from person to person. Typically, the chat output is used for Discord, which provides good audio quality. This means SteelSeries Sonar can remove a decent amount of background noise in most instances. Typically, settings the clearcast slider to about 43 will work well. However, if your friend’s voices are cutting in and out you’ll need to move the slider to the left.
When setting up your Media and Aux settings you’ll typically want to enable spatial audio. With spatial audio the music and content you watch will be more immersive and often have a cinematic feel. Again, the preset configurations for both outputs are great options, with Movie: Immersion being the best for Media and Music: Punchy being the best for Aux. However, you will want to adjust the bass, voice, and treble settings to improve the sound.
Additionally, you will want to customize the spatial audio settings for your Media and Aux outputs. For Media setting the top slider to -2.5 and Distance to 70 will sound good. However, for Aux you’ll want to set the top slider to -1/2 and the Distance to 70. With both you can adjust the top slider to your liking as your sound preference may vary slightly.
For the best microphone Sonar settings you’ll want to enable ClearCasst Noise Cancellation with it set to about 45. Doing so will help remove background noise from your microphone. However, if your microphone is cutting in and out then you will need to lower it until the issue is fixed. Additionally, you will want to use a preset that suits your voice. Typically, the Deep Voice, Less Nasal, and Broadcast Low Pitch configurations will work well for male voices. Additionally, the Broadcast Low Pitch and Clarity Low Pitch options tend to work well for female voices.
After you have adjusted all of SteelSeries Sonar settings, you’ll want to configure your applications to use specific outputs. You can do this from the Mixer settings page. Below each of the sliders is a box, applications using the set output will appear here when playing audio. You can drag an application and move it to another box to change which mix is being used for that application. For some applications you will need to change the audio device settings within the application itself to change which mix is being used.
