How to Remove Background From Video in CapCut – Change Video Background
In this video I show you how to remove background from video in CapCut. Using this method you can change a video background, removing a person from the background and replacing it with another. You can also choose a specific object or objects that you want to extract, rather than just people.
To remove background from a video in CapCut you can use 3 different methods. All the options can be found by selecting the video in the timeline, then by going to Video then Remove BG at the top. Here you will see the 3 options for removing the background.
The easiest method to remove background in capcut without green screen is to use the Auto removal option. This will do a decent job at removing the background, with the quality of the removal varying from video to video. However, if you have a static background or a clear subject then the auto removal option will work good for many applications.
Alternatively, you can use the Custom removal option. This allows you to use a brush to select your subject in the video, CapCut will then process this information and apply the mask for your subject to the rest of the video. To select your subject you will need to use the smart brush or brush tool. The smart brush works best as it will select the similar surrounding area to select your subject. This makes selecting your subject much easier. However, the normal brush tool works similarly but typically isn’t as good at selecting the subject as it relies more on manual selection. Additionally, there is also a smart erase and erase tool which can be used to remove a part of your selection.
The custom removal option is good if you want a more refined selection, and to change the background of a video more precisely. However, the process is slower and can be difficult to get right. The more time you spend on getting the selection right the better the background removal will look.
When using the auto removal or custom removal options you will notice feather and expand settings. These can be used to adjust your selection to make it look better. The feather option blurs the selection, allowing you to fade the selection into the background. Typically, you won’t want to set this too high, however, this is preference. The expand setting allows you to expand or retract the mask. Increasing the expand setting will make your selection bigger, while decreasing the expand setting will make your selection smaller.
Another option is to use Chroma key to remove the background. Although this is one of the better options, it only works if the background is a single color, and the color doesn’t conflict with the subject you want to select. To use the chroma key you will need to select the background color you want to remove by clicking on it in the preview. In some cases you may need to select the eyedropper tool before selecting the color. If you are using a green screen then you will want to use the chroma key option.
When using chroma key to remove the background you can typically get a good selection which makes changing the background a lot easier. Additionally, with chroma key you get access to the intensity, shadow, feather edge, and clean up edge settings. These can help you refine your selection and make your subject stand out from a new background if you choose to add one.
In some instances, you may find some objects can still be seen on the sides of your video once the background has been removed. This is typically noticeable when using a green screen that doesn’t cover the entire background of your video. Fortunately, you can fix this issue by cropping the sides of your video. To crop a video you will need to select it in your timeline, then click the Crop Ratio button under the preview. From here you can then adjust the sides of your crop to remove anything left in your video.
Once you have removed the background from your video you may want to adjust the scale and position of the subject. This allows you to make your subject bigger or move a person to the position you want it. You can adjust the size of your video by dragging the corners of the video in the preview. Additionally, you can click and drag on the video to move the video where you want it.
If you want to change the background of your video in CapCut PC then you will need to place your new background onto the timeline. Once done you can move it below the video you removed the background on to ensure it doesn’t cover the subject.
