This is a game that I discovered recently, and even though it’s not the kind of thing I usually play it turned out to be one of the coolest and most fun indie games I’ve played in years.

So for the penultimate video of 2023, let us partake in the story of a cop-turned-vigilante cyborg who’s fighting to save the besieged Tominaka Plaza (Get it? Huh? Do you get it?) from the criminal gang that ambushed and maimed her 6 months ago… but, you know, with bright colours and a fun ‘80s soundtrack.

The only comparison I can come up with (out of games that I’ve actually played) is Wild Guns, a SNES game that was remastered for modern systems. It’s a similar sort of gallery shooter where you can dodge and melee while shooting enemies, collecting powerups and destroying environmental objects.

I recorded this video in Easy mode, but there’s also Normal and Hard difficulties. Normal is fun but I usually have to retry the levels multiple times to beat them on that difficulty (you get unlimited retries), so I thought Easy would be more fun to watch.
