The next two storyline bosses. They're a bit too insignificant to have a separate video for each, and the first battle, against the slug, is just too easy. It makes sense to group the two Plant bosses in one single video.

Huge Slug (or HugeSlug, if you like)

Well, it's at least a good time to test controllable Weretiger Rei. Such an easy fight.

Huge Slug is weak to fire, which is not exactly the easiest weakness to exploit (in spite of the Flame Strike enemy skill being learnable in the same dungeon), and the boss does have the annoying gimmick of dodging a half of the physical attacks thrown its way, much akin to the bats you've been facing in various dungeons (and I guess also the little bolt doll enemies). It's too easy to circumvent this annoying gimmick by using a fire-elemental move on the boss - Burn works, as does any item of said element. This is best done at the start of the fight in case we get some lucky counterattacks before we start THE BIG ATTACKING.

What's that? Transforming Rei of course! The Faerie Village-obtained Lifestealer gives him enormous power, one he will not beat by much as the game progresses, so his damage potential is just brutal, which is just what we want when we lack a far more broken Ascension Ryu that you'd have in a game with actual level-ups.

Huge Slug has a passable speed of 24, so it's easy to outspeed him with two Speed Boots, and two castings of Speed would enable him to be double-attacked by anyone. Rei is even faster and can EX-turn him after casting Speed on himself just once, and that's about all we need for victory - Influence will ensure Rei doesn't attack anyone else, and the battle will be over in no time at all.

Some Royal Daggers / Protects help ensure Rei doesn't die, but the boss isn't anything dangerous.

Shroom

Okay, this is definitely a tougher battle, but still nothing home to write about.

Shroom is healthier than Huge Slug and has no elemental weakness (which is fine because we plan to use Rei with his nonelemental damage anyway, just like we did in the previous fight); his speed is only 1 point higher so the EX-turning specifics are essentially the same as in the last fight I showcased.

What does make Shroom stand out is that it actually has threatening damage potential. Momo is OHKO'd by a physical attack without even being at the point of the attack formation (Rei needs to be there for higher damage output obviously), and Rei also risks being KO'd from full health by Head Cracker (actually a Triple Blow clone with a different animation, kinda like Amalgam's Astral Warp to Shadowwalk) or even Blitz towards the end of the fight. The former is indeed a risk because we need some time to buff Rei up with Royal Daggers / Protect, but by the time the boss is capable of spamming Blitz, we will have had all the time to cast any protects we wanted.

This time it's also a good idea to give Momo two Speeds so that she joins Rei in EX-turning the boss, providing useful healing and assistance through item magic.

If Ryu falls (quite likely with Ragnarok being spammed), there's little point in reviving him. He's kind of a weakling defensively, and not so hot offensively either most of the time even if I do keep finding some gimmicky use for him every once in a while, so it's really not worth it when he's likely going down to the next AoE attack used.

Speaking of Ragnarok, it may be a magical spell and a powerful one... sometimes (since Shroom has an unusually low Intelligence stat), but it still takes physical defence into account (as does the ever-useful earlygame Magic Ball available to the player on runs with actual levelling) so all those buffs help reduce the damage to quite laughable.

Shroom dies, never using the dreaded Blitz, but we were prepared for it regardless.

The next fight just ahead is quite big indeed, with Ryu going face-to-face to a particularly brutal solo opponent. So look forward to that!
