Our crazy adventure continues with as many as five new combat units and Merlinus providing utility before we are able to field whichever characters we want. Having Yuno as a promoted flier really changes the way this map is played in Reverse Recruitment.

From turn 1, Hugh becomes part of the army as Ellen's replacement. He's got pretty insane stats if we compare him to vanilla Lugh (normally joining towards the end of the following map), his magic and bulk being both very welcome. I don't prioritise getting him kills all that much here, favouring Dayan's growth, but there's no doubt that he's currently the most all-around useful caster in the party. Not dying to one attack (and sometimes two even) like Niime is a boon that can be appreciated on a mage unit. Because of one midgame joiner mage, it's unlikely that we'll really invest into Hugh, but his earlygame is nothing short but fantastic as some future maps will show.

Right at the start, I feed a kill to Karel (he doesn't level up yet), and Yuno picks him up and uses her surplus movement to head for the Armorslayer village. She is capable of nearly 2HKOing the chapter's boss with it, needing a tiny bit of chip damage beforehand. We could even complete the map in 3 turns if Karel didn't die easily to, namely, the Archer next to the boss. But as things presently are, Yuno needs another turn to ensure Karel's safety.

The rest of the party before the turn 2 "Dieck's army" show up just start slowly attacking things down south. Their sole aim is self-improvement. Namely, I want to get another non-useless level-up for Dayan (because having an earlygame mounted bow user doubling stuff is just so handy), and since Dayan has no enemy phase whatsoever that implies everyone else contributing to it to some extent, too.

On turn 2, it's new characters galore! In Dieck's place we've got Zeiss for whom the creator of the patch decided he'd be lv. 1 and not lv. 5 like Dieck in vanilla. Oh well, it's more room to gain good level-ups I guess, but Zeiss isn't exactly capable to just fly around and kill everything yet, so he grows slowly.

Thany, Ward and Lott have been replaced with Brigand Garret, Archer Igrene and Dark Mage Sophia. Garret and Igrene are quite good and better the vanilla earlygame Fighters and Archers respectively. Garret has a ton of HP but shouldn't really be seen as a tank because of his 4 defence and susceptibility to being doubled later on. Igrene starts with a Steel Bow that weighs her down too much - she needs to trade it to Dayan ASAP (he loses only 1 AS to it and appreciates the extra power).

Sophia is just as terrible as she always is, except now she's available early and we have the option to train her instead of one of the other casters (Hugh and Niime). We would reject her if it weren't for our interest in going to Illia instead of Sacae - it just so happens that Sophia's experience is like Thany's experience in the original. She'll have to gain enough experience to beat whatever Elphin gets, and Elphin is such a handy unit (even if he doesn't grab kills, he and Lalum will probably dance each other a lot).

So Sophia gets fed some kills alongside the actually viable units for this reason. I suppose she won't be that bad if her levels are good, and she can Nosferatank early because Ray brings that tome along in chapter 6.

It is possible to send Zeiss north to kill the boss on turn 4 assuming Yuno weakened him prior to that, and he'll get a lot of exp, but I failed to get a good level-up resulting from this so I kept him near the two forts where it was easier to ensure his level-up isn't awful. Speed, defence and some other useful stats are all welcome boosts for a unit who will likely be out premier flier in this challenge.

Overall, this wasn't a particularly hard chapter, even if fun to do, but the following map would make things totally different...
