Quite likely the most faithful home port of an arcade game of its time; play the arcade original and then the Intellivsion port! You will likely be as impressed as I. The arcade original was created by Data East for the DECO Cassette System and also licensed to Bally/Midway, also with the title BURNIN' RUBBER. In this overhead racing game you steer your car through various raceways, trying to avoid getting bumped into the side of the road (fatal) and building up enough speed to have the ability to jump when needed. Jumping allows you to avoid getting bumped into the walls (only until you land), and to jump over where the roads end, either at a pond or a river. When the river approaches you will get a warning in the form of an exclamation point. The road's end is sometimes instantaneous after the warning and sometimes there's a bit of a delay; just get used to the raceway layout to know ahead of time. Your car will slow down considerably after a jump, so push back up on the control to speed up again. Points are hard to come by in this game-- you only get 200-500 per smashed car and a scant bonus at the end of the raceway-- BUT.. if you did not smash any cars during that raceway you get a dandy 50,000 point bonus when you reach the end! You get an extra car every 20,000 points, so get this bonus whenever you can! The rivers often have islands; if you time your jump you nab an additional 1,000 points when you land on one (but be ready to jump again!). Fun classic arcade game, with one stellar port!
