VICE recently interviewed emulation legend Near (byuu) about his 25 year journey to localise the Squaresoft SNES RPG Bahamut Lagoon. In an article written by Patrick Klepek, Near details his history on the project and what drove him to master programming, learn Japanese and his obsession with Bahamut Lagoon. Near made many stop-start attempts to localise the game over the years with various teams, and finally reached his goal when he released the localisation patch in Feb 2021. His experience led him to becoming a leading force in the emulation community - creating the reknowned bsnes emulator. He has since retired from the emulation scene, as covered back in Episode 3 of the Bigwig Podcast.
