This video has two playthroughs in it, the first is a commentated one of the Japanese version Cannon Dancer in the standard mode with no extras turned on. After that we have a no voiced over playthrough on the English arcade version using the challenge mode taking the maximum of two extra perks. In order to earn the beat the game trophy.
After the creator of Strider Kouichi “Isuke” Yotsui left Capcom it wouldn't be until 1996 that he got to develop his version of Strider 2. Which ended up being called Cannon Dancer and saw a release into arcade in 1996, sadly the game didn't perform that well and by all accounts few units were sold outside of Japan. So consider yourself lucky is you ever played or saw it.
Likely this was down to the game's late release of 1996, by which point 3D titles were all the rage. It also had to compete with titles like Marvel Super Heroes and Metal Slug both of which have vastly superior looking 2D. Finally the game's tough starting difficulty made it very unwelcoming to first time players.
Cannon Dancer is like Strider an off the wall platformer with you have to jump, climb and kick your way through an endless army of enemies. Understanding the layout of each stage and all the moves, including the air suplex and rolling throw are key to having any chance of beating the game on a single credit. So far we managed to reach stage 5 without using any extras, however the final stage is in a league of it's own throwing boss after boss at you, including a fight with an enhanced clone, the three agents which change the order you fight them in one and the final boss. Hope you saved all your super attacks as you are going to need them.
This new released from United Games Entertainment, includes some great extras to help beat the game, but little in the way of extras. No, sound test, art gallery and worst of all the dipswitch are all missing which limits replay values as a result.
