19-SEP-1984 Norwegian sea, off the coast of Trondheim
We're looking for convoys, and after waiting two weeks in the North Atlantic, we had enough, as we only hit a small convoy. We went back to the Norwegian sea.
21-SEP-1984 Norwegian Sea
We received priority new orders. We must smash a NATO landing force attempting to retake Andoya, Norway.
Originally we planned to set up near the GIUK, but I changed my mind, and we set up near Andoya instead.
24-SEP-1984 Just off of Lofoten Islands
We intercepted what appears to be the NATO landing force.
We located at least 3 escorts, plus 1 Iwo Jima, 2 NATO RORO, and 1 or more Lander(s), plus ASW helo support. Escorts include Type 21, Type 42, and Spruance.
We decided to disrupt their formation by firing two long-range torpedos into them, then wait for them to settle on an escape vector, before firing more. As the ships "settled" onto their escape vector, I send them each a torpedo.
Two ROROs were sunk, then one escort. We kept shooting long-range torpedos while chasing down the landing ships, even as a Type 42 charged me from the north. The Iwo Jima was going flank and getting away, and in my experience, she'll run even the 65-76s out of power.
In the end, we sank 7 out of 9 ships in the landing force, 2 landers, 2 RORO, a Spruance, a Type 21, and a Type 42. Only the Iwo Jima and a Spurance got away, mainly because I ran out of torpedoes.
We disengaged, got congratulated for a job well done, got a medal, and were recalled to Murmansk for reloads.
