------
09-OCT-1984 Norwegian coast
Our current orders are to intercept NATO carrier task force leaving Portsmouth, England.
As that's to the south, we decided to block the Norwegian sea at the narrower point to the south, near Bergen, and we spotted the group hugging the Norwegian coast coming north. We intercepted the group just north of Trondheim.
We quickly IDed the Nimitz-class carrier, escorted by a Belknap, a Spurance, a Perry, and a Type 42.
We decided to start with 2 65-76 torpedoes, and when the escorts revealed who are attacking, we will shoot two more torpedoes toward the attackers.
When some of their ASROC torpedoes got a bit too close, I launched two decoys to pull them away from me, while I dodged toward the southeast.
Nimitz took a hit, but a second torpedo that locked on to its wake just disappeared. I launched another torpedo after her.
Belknap managed to dodge torpedoes launched at her, but my torpedo at least made it run away.
The torpedo I fired at Type 42 somehow latched onto a trawler that came out of nowhere and destroyed it. Type 42's rudder was damaged somehow and it just kept circling near where the trawler went down.
The subsequent torpedo I sent after Nimitz finally sank it.
The Belknap tried to attack again but this time the wake homer latched on and won't let go. I also sent another wake-homer against the circling Type 42 and sank that.
As I have completed the objective, it is time to escape, as I am running a little low on torpedoes, with only 1 or 2 Type 65 torpedoes and maybe 5-6 TEST-71Ms left.
HQ was quite happy, as I got a medal and a promotion to Kapitan 1st Class upon my return to Murmansk.
10-OCT-1984 Return to Murmansk
We reloaded 4 decoys, 3 Vyuga-65s, 8 Type 65s, and the rest TEST-71Ms, and left for our next job: stop a submarine going after our convoys in the Barents sea.
I checked if I can afford the Sierra or the Akula. Turns out you need a prestige of 700 and 800 respectively. I'm at just over 500. I can get a Victor III, but I think I'll hold out for the Akula.
And the war continues in the next episode.
