Starfleet Command is receiving reports of Starfleet ships attacking the Romulans in the neutral Lodash system. We have been assigned to figure out what is going on, by downloading the logs from the listening post.
As we approached the listening post with yellow alert (shields only, no weapons), we noticed several Federation frigates attacking the two Romulan War Eagles in the system. I ordered maximum speed as we rushed toward the closest Romulan ship while ordering scans on the Federation ships. They were squawking IDs of Federation ships... that should be nowhere near this area. One FFD plus and one CFFplus were attacking each Romulan ship.
WARNING: mission is EXTREMELY unfair and you need to go speed 31 (max) all the way. Don't be surprised if you have to replay this mission 3-5 times.
Hailing them produced no useful results. They insist they need help defeating the Romulans and we should help them. Romulan ship just told us to be careful. I started shooting at the Federation ships, even as one of them blew up from the big Romulan plasma torpedo. My mass of drones destroyed the other one, and I immediately turned around for the other ship, which has started to take a beating, and it was most of the way across the map.
Fortunately, we got there just in time, as my drone swarm forced one of them into dropping a wild weasel decoy, and I killed the other one. I was thinking about capturing this remaining one, but the Romulan ship launched its big plasma torp as soon as that ship voided the weasel, blowing up the ship.
I checked with both Romulan ships, who both thanked me for helping, but insisted I should depart this area immediately as their reinforcements are on the way. I did not argue. We went to the listening post, downloaded the log, and departed the area.
Turns out there were six OTHER attacks in addition to the two we intervened in. No wonder the Romulans are ticked off.
Starfleet was pleased that we have managed to save both Romulan ships and they are witnesses to how we are not responsible, as Starfleet has by now realized what's going on. We're being invaded by the Mirror Universe. Those ships attacking the Romulans are from the Terran Imperium.
At the spacedock, I see that a CADR has become available. CADR is a later variant of the CAD (drone cruiser), the ship I have, with two extra defensive phasers in the rear. I traded my ship for that. So now I am in command of USS Agincourt, a CADR.
I have plenty of prestige points, so I decided to also requisition the USS Azov, an NCD (new drone cruiser), a missile-armed variant of the NCL, same 6 x drone launchers as me, just a slightly smaller package and slightly weaker shields. We can trade up if we spot a CAD or CADR later.
The reason for a 2nd ship is multifold. Not only can I engage more targets, but we can also now have a reasonable chance of capturing enemy ships, as we can beam over twice as many marines. The more we can beam over at once, the fewer casualties we'll suffer. Marine boarding parties are not cheap prestige wise. And it just turned out, it comes in VERY useful in the next special mission.
Then it's time to check what other missions are out there...
