Who doesn't love the Konami Code? Up Up, Down Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start is a powerful combination that a ton of NES games used. In some games, it adds lives, weapons or energy. This code was originally for developers to help them debug and test their games, but often they were left in the final version of the game, and gamers took advantage. Let's check out some of the best Konami Code cheats on the Original NES. Oh, and these codes also work on the NES Online versions of these games on the Nintendo Switch!

Origin of the Konami Code:
Kazuhisa Hashimoto, a developer at Konami, created the code in 1986 while working on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) port of the arcade game Gradius. Hashimoto found the game too difficult for testing purposes, so he implemented a simple cheat code to grant the player a full set of power-ups. Konami included the code in many of their games. It has since become a significant part of video game culture, appearing as an Easter egg in numerous other games (both Konami and non-Konami) and even in various forms of media and websites.

Contra: Unlocks 30 Lives
At the title screen, type in the Konami code take advantage of fighting through your mission with 30 lives.

Lifeforce/Salamander
Just like in Contra, entering the Konami code at the title screen fills your lives to 30-total ships.

Gradius
Unlike Contra and Lifeforce, in Gradius, you can pause the game and enter the Konami Code at any time to add almost every weapon to your ship. You can still power up the speed meter to fly around faster, but beware that you can only use the code one time per playthrough.

Nemesis
Think of Nemesis as the Game Boy version of Gradius. And just like Gradius, if you pause the game and enter the Konami Code, you can also take advantage of the full weapons option.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan
In the Turtle's first Game Boy adventure, you can also take advantage of the Konami code. Pause this Game Boy adventure and enter the Konami code to fill the Life Meter.
