Microsoft Launches Another Classic Rare Game On... The Nintendo Switch?!
I will admit that I am a huge fan of the Nintendo Switch Online service. Yes, I liked it better when it was only $50 a month for families, but even still, Nintendo has continued to add features and value. They just added one of my favorite games of all time from Rare and Microsoft to the service on the Nintendo 64 side of things. Let's take a look at Killer Instinct Gold Edition.
Unlike Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat, where Street Fighter II featured more realistic fighters & Mortal Kombat featured more mythical fighters, Killer Instinct seemed like a combination of the two. You had boxers, ninjas, but you also had ice creatures and werewolves. It was something that was truly different and unique compared to other fighting games of the time.
Killer Instinct had originally launched on the Super Nintendo as a port of the amazing arcade game of the same name. Killer Instinct Gold, however, increases the graphical fidelity when compared to the SNES, improves the sound, and gives you an even more arcade-accurate experience. I loved the way the Super NES version played, but the N64 version was such a better experience back in the day.
My friend Chris and I used to play Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct Gold all the time. I would bounce back and forth between Jago, who reminded me of Ryu from Street Fighter, and Cinder. The reason for me to choose Cinder? That was my dog's name.
Overall, this is another fantastic game being added to the Nintendo Switch Online service and one I highly recommend that you try out. It has been available for some time on the Rare Classics Collection, available from Microsoft on the XBOX, but I'm glad to see that it's returned home to a Nintendo console.
